Edward H. Tarr has passed on

Musicologist, author, and trumpeter Ed Tarr has died. He was from the USA, but lived in Switzerland. He recorded many Renaissance and Baroque natural trumpet pieces. His Hummel recording is the one I have always prefered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIHXmF1Yyws&list=PLjQsyGmPDmPPhoHJJ2J803QTUUmA...

I have never had a problem enjoying Bruckner's music :) But doesn't it give you the feeling that you'd rather be listening to something else? It's like Beethoven symphony number 1, which our local symphony performed last time out. Why? When we have 2 through 9. No, and I enjoy Beethoven's 1st quite...

There are plenty of Marcel Tabuteau recordings around. He was a magnificent player and also taught at Curtis Institute where he influenced many musicians. He is considered the 'founder of the American school' of oboe playing. Hear some good historical samples. https://marceltabuteau.com/recordings/o...

It is a superb work. Nothing low about it, except Johnny Cash's bass voice :) I am not a great cm fan, but the further back in the genre you go the more folkish it is. I grew up around that style and understand it, therefore I find it enjoyable. The closer it gets to country-western, the less I like...
