I grew up hearing Patsy Cline on the radio. She was a master at her style. I often had high school students who worked hard to do some Patsy songs.

Saturday early: Shostakovich Sym 5/Maazel/Cleveland. Reblem, I, too, had some Maxim Shostakovich leading his dad's music and found it very fine.

I have a couple of those Pittsburgh recordings somewhere around my house. I think I'll re-listen to them. I've heard his Verdi Requiem with the VPO was very god.

I am now happily on cd 4 of the Naxos White Box of Prokofiev Symphonies and Concertos/Kuchar - NSO Ukraine and Wit/PNR Symphony. The recorded sound and orchestral playing is very satisfying.

That was a very interesting read. Some of those "academic personnel" are closed minded and, I believe, do not even want to recognize that fact.

I'd agree that Roger Voisin's tone color was unique - blaring and loud. For me he wasn't a BSO asset but a liability. Similarly principal horn James Stagliano. Leinsdorf replaced the orchestra's substandard principals when he could, but that was limited. The bso had an old style French influence am...
