Hey guys, sorry for not responding more to all the help. Everyone said the lecture went very well, and that not only did they learn about Mahler, they enjoyed his music tremendously. Thanks for the response. I've never actually done this before. I think what you recommended is great, but probably won't work out for my class. Thanks all! Sorry I couldn't make it to a desktop sooner. My upcoming Mahler lecture
Hey all, Posting from my phone, so I will be brief. I'll be able to describe what I'm using thus far in the lecture in an hour or so, when I get to a desktop. I'm teaching a class this Thursday for music majors at my community college, in the "survey of music" course. The subject is gustav Mahler. I...

I think every Mahler symphony may have been my favorite at some point or another... although to be quite honest I haven't listened to No. 3 or 8 dozens of times as I have with the others. I've been on quite the Mahler binge lately; in the past month or so I've gotten almost 20 recordings, plus the B...

Re: Disney's Fantasia and Fantasia 2000
Fantasia is such an amazing movie. The animation is so beautiful and tells "a" story of the music so well, yet leaves enough to the imagination. I don't really have anything against Fantasia 2000, other than it's a complete letdown for fans of the original. While I think they do produce nice visuals...

So to that end I would say, that when it comes to 20th Century atonal works you can not go wrong with him. Perhaps it is his clinical approach that while it makes him successful with a style that can benefit from it, he's less succesful with other earlier styles. I have never considered buying his ...

I am completely biased.
