Re: Vaugan Williams ... the SYMPHONIES
I loved the even-numbered RVW symphonies instantly since I first heard them. The odd-numbered ones have taken a bit longer to work their way into my soul, but those too eventually found their place. I love that neat little March in Sym #8/II [Scherzo alla Marcia]. what a cool piece for wind ensembl...

Re: Exactly when did Blake Edwards beome a hasbeen?
I agree about "A Fine Mess". There are other Edwards films also in the same infertile vein. And not to make excuses for the guy, but I did read that Blake was ill at the time, seriously ill such that the film was edited by the studio, and that Edwards was not able to oversee the completion of it. Re: Why is Bach so flippin' hard to play on piano?
As I have said often enough, the piano--a percussion instrument--is simply not right for music that was written for the harpsichord, which is basically an string instrument; why do you think Bach and Scarlatti sound so well on the guitar? Harpsichord... or Clavichord? Could be either, or both. But ...

Re: Why is Bach so flippin' hard to play on piano?
I'm not a professional grade pianist, but the one insight that I happened upon (thanks to the editor of one of my Bach publications) and which none of my old piano teachers had ever offered me, was (and this applies to J.S. Bach especially) that I didn't have to keep my right hand in the treble and ...
