Does page-turning for recitals by the likes of Yo Yo Ma, Perlman, Hahn, etc. count? Hilary actually thanked me by name to the audience during the second half. :D And I forgot to bring out Perlman's music for the second half of his concert. Garrett, it might be productive if you would clue us in as to what talent goes into a hip-hop track, and Kendrick Lamar's tracks in particular. Why does it signify, compared with the example I gave? . . . It's so obvious that I shouldn't have to say it again. Re: 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music--Kendrick Lamar????
Boy, is this thread depressing.... I think one of the roots of the problem is that people just can't grasp the immense amount of skill, talent, and dedication required to produce a successful hip hop track. "Oh, c'mon, that sounds so easy to do!" Well, consider that Kendrick is simply so tale...

Well, even though I've stepped away from composing, I still have a few irons left in the fire. Here's the latest! It no longer surprises me, but it used to, that so many people like or dislike a piece of music when, from what they say about it, they haven't really listened to it at all, not attentively enough to hear what's going on in it. Maybe that's part of music's appeal, that it can get to the inattentive...

Brad Mehldau: After Bach
So the superb jazz pianist Brad Mehldau just released a new solo album, "After Bach." The album comprises the pianist/composer's recordings of four preludes and one fugue from J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, each followed by an “After Bach” piece written by Mehldau and inspired by its WTC mate. A...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nothing will "replace" the CD for classical music consumers, who have golden ears and demand the ultimate in sound quality that's provided by CDs. Careful, good sir! Digital downloads can/do/will-continue-to match and, indeed, surpass CD audio quality. It'...

I have to admit that it's much more difficult for me to make allowances for Levine than it is for, say, Wagner or Karajan.
