Re: Bernard Herrmann: Master of Psychologically Nuanced Musi
If you haven't seen it, I think you should check out Hangover Square from 1945. Very good movie, and I LOVE the piano concerto that is played in the end.Gary wrote:I just watched North by Northwest two nights ago. Gonna have to dig out The Man Who Knew Too Much DVD and watch it again.

So you would rather do something that didn't quite satisfy you but you got much money for it, than to do something that you really loved and made your life fantastic but didn't give you much money? Wow. ? What are you even talking about? All I said was, "He's still a loser." Wow. Yes, and that is w...

Re: CMG Composerly Chat
I want an alto trombone. I have spoken to a guy who had one. I wonder how common it is? I'm just thinking out loud, of course. The inclusion of more 'exotic' instruments tends either to limit performances, or invite substitutions. It is apparently fairly common to substitute contrabassoon (e.g.) fo...

The compositions do not use the new notation-system. I have only started to try it out. I can tell you more about it later. I have spoken with peoples from several orchestras and they say that for some instruments it will be impossible to do, but with instruments as the violin it can be done, so I ...

A string quartet, a symphony and a piano work. I don't work much on the string quartet as I have a tendency to mix ideas if I work with several things at one time. I'm also experimenting with a notation-system that haven't been used in western classical music before. I'm not done with it yet though...

I'm just pissed off because it's impossible to get a good answer on this forum. Well, you mustn't let that deprive you of your cool, Arnstein . Maybe, maybe not. I think most composers would have been fascinated by the articulation-opportunities, opposed to the harpsichord, so I'm sure they would compose something for piano-forte, but I think they would continue to compose for the harpsichord too, as it makes a different sound than the pian...

I don't want people to write what their favourite symphonies from the classical era is. I've always thought the classical era was between 1760 and 1820. I mean the concertos and symphonies that had the most influence to later classical work, and the concertos and symphonies that showed that a new era had begun, and that the baroque era was over. My signature picture has nothing to do w...

Edvard Grieg
Hello! I'm new on this board, and since I'm from Norway, I thought it was appropriate to start a new topic about Grieg. I recently went to see Trondheim Symphony Orchestra performing his Piano Concerto in a-minor(Sigurd Slåttebrekk on piano). I love that piano concerto, and it was really good perfor...
