I was in the library when this was done last week, but couldn't stay to see it. To my ears, the acoustic recording shifts the tonal balance downward, making Beczala sound more baritonal than in real life - more Caruso-like, in effect. Remarkable. Tonight's production was very nice-pleasant sets with good singing and acting-even some ballet thrown in-otoh the opera was a little slow at times-overall a good experience. Len

Lance I don't think the Met's attendance problem is that much related to inferior singers-I'm far from being an expert on singers and conductorsand but can only say what grabs me and what I hate at a Met performance or at other venues.
