Re: What NEW discs/music are you adding to your collection?

Picked up these bargain reissues the other. OK the Adagio isn't by Albinoni and it runs to 6:50 as opposed to 11 minutes plus on an other CD I had but I bought the disk for the oboe concertos.
The Shostakovich disk, well, they need time to bed in, especially number 1.

Another gavotte, at least as famous as Bach's, is in Prokofiev's Classical Symphony. He arranged it for piano, as in this recording by Prokofiev himself, and included it in the ballroom scene of his ballet "Romeo and Juliet." This belongs on the music board. Congratulations (meant seriously). The convention is indeed for a gavotte to be notated to start on the third beat, but to sound as though it starts on the first. Here is probably the most famous one of all, from the Bach French Suite in G. V-YsNbe21OY Ah thanks, I ...

There are so many great recordings of Dvorak's Violin Concerto, including one by the composer's grandson (Joseph Suk) (27 pages of titles on amazon), that this one would hardly seem necessary, yet here we are, with every detail and subtle phrasing in place, and very pleasing to the ear and heart.
