A beautiful quotation from Schumann
From the linear notes of the recent release of Andreas Staier's Schumann album - Tribute to Bach: "1836 - One evening I went to the Leipzig cemetry to seek the resting place of a great man: I searched for hours, all over the place - but found no 'J.S. Bach'. And when I asked the gravedigger about it...

And to remind everyone that there is actually still hope in Rimsky's discography: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51o0T3UtgXL._SS500_.jpg Which contains the best Tsar Bride Overture ever recorded, period! I do not know which piece by Mendelssohn is his ultimate masterpiece, but, 2 most under rated masterworks by him in my opinion are the Concerto for violin, piano and strings in D minor and the Concerto for piano and strings in a A minor. I am not a fan of ALL the Bruckner symphonies, but I have a special place for No. 5 in B-flat Major, especially with Hans Knappertsbusch who led the Vienna Philharmonic on a British Decca recording. I also have privately-issued recordings with Furtwängler that are quite thrilling, but on No. 5, Kna...

The sad fact is the commercial mentality governing big music corporations these days. If it isn't going to sell they won't record it. I was shown in History class today a video of the titled programme. Is there a commerical recording in dvd/cd format available nowadays? If so on which label? The beautiful ensemble is the Monteverdi orchestra, which i believe Gustav Leonhardt performs on harpsichord (if not mistaken?).
