The really wonderful Munch Berlioz Romeo and Juliet has never had wide release on CD in the US. I have it on RCA Navigator and the mastering left a lot to be desired.

Are you certain the No.7 in the notes is the reconstructed symphony and not the "Great" D.944? Years back the "Great" was known as No.7.

Seems like a good idea to me.

Some years back it became the fashion to do Schoenberg's "Survivor from Warsaw" as a prelude to the Ninth. If I recall correctly there was no intermission in the program.

I miss the excitement of the hunt and the thrill of the find. Certainly, pointing and clicking is easier. But it is also and easier way to the poor house. And, my house is beginning to track the attention of those folks who do TV shows about clutter and hoarding.

Mr. hound needs to find a library that has a copy of Jonathan Valin's "The RCA Bible" (1994). It will tell him more than he ever thought he wanted to know about the history and technique of the "Living Stereo" recordings. Unfortuanately it is hard to come by.

I have no idea how the writer can say that Klaus Tennstedt's name isn't associated with the Bruckner symphonies. On my planet he had a great reputation with these works during his lifetime and in his recorded legacy.

I believe we have to drop the Cincinnati Symphony from the Neeme Jarvi list. He has conducted the group, but the recording in question is Ravel's Pavane which is led by his son Paavo. What an incredible legacy. I had cold chills just remembering some of those recordings. His Gurrelieder is unmatched in clarity and sheer beauty. Even unlikely suspects like Wagner's Die Meistersinger Prelude and Falla's Three Cornered Hat benefit from Boulez' masterful direction.

Satie and Mompou were miniaturists, not minimalists. Satie is closer to Berg and Webern than Adams and Glass--he just avoided atonality.My old favorite John Adams work was the "Grand Pianola Music".
