Re: Naxos to Release Milhaud's "Oresteia of Aeschylus"
This is great news for Milhaud-lovers. l'Orestie is a very difficult work to bring of - very large choral/orchestral forces are needed! It is a tough and long work - not a crowdpleaser. So, it is no wonder that he complete Orestie has been performed only very rarely . In the archives of Belgian Radi...

In february Jos Van Immerseel and Anima Eterna, performed Carmina Burana in Belgium and the Netherlands. Good reviews. Rather smallish orchestra ( ca 60-65) & chorus. Still, enough musicians and singers to make impact. http://1.standaardcdn.be/Assets/Images_Upload/2014/02/19/ddf93e20-97fc-11e3-b3ea-...

Do give Charles Koechlin's "Les heures Persanes" a try.
If I'm not mistaken both Kathryn Stott and Michael Korstick recorded the pianoversion.
Koechlin orchestrated these wonderful miniatures. Heinz Holliger recorded that version for Hanssler/SWR.

The original score calls explicitely for a "Flessatone" (the nomenclature of instruments is in Italian) which should have a "whistling" and not a "ringing" tone ( note by the composer).
