Yes, thank you John F for pointing that out - Anton Rubinstein's 3rd PC, not Beethoven's. I must've been half asleep! So, did the RODZINSKI/Hofmann Rubinstein 4th PC ever made it to CD? Interesting you would meet him this way. He was very good friends with Joan Fontaine, too. Did he ever bring her along to these tournaments? Did you happen to notice the piano lid on the lower picture (Beethoven PC #3). Hofmann was always experimenting with piano actions, etc., and it looks like an acoustical device (with holes) has been appended under the piano lid to, I suspect, made the tone move less forward and more to himself. Noti...

Somewhere I read a comment that Pennario sold more piano recordings in the early 1960s than any other pianist. He told me he was very honoured to be selected by Piatigorsky and Heifetz to participate in their famous series of recordings. His Liszt concertos with Leibowitz received rave reviews. And ...

Perhaps the term "classical music" is thought of as being the more "traditional" classical music from the Baroque through the Romantic periods and a bit beyond into the 20th century for most of the die-hards.
