Re: How do ACOUSTIC 78-rpm vocal treasures appeal to YOU?
Lance, Your post reminds me of John's previous one (donating his vinyl to the library). What happened to your 78s? It must have been hard although I can barely imagine the space the occupied in your house. It makes me wonder how all the cds in our collections will fare one day as all the music in th...

Re: Horowitz megabox slated for October release
Well, it looks like there is a lot of duplication in repertoire even from different venues. Many people may choose not to acquire this set due to the duplication factor. On the other hand, same for Callas collectors (they want everything/anything despite sound quality), if you are truly in to the a...

I note that EMI's edition of (allegedly) all Cziffra's recordings on EMI, Philips, and America Decca - are no longer showing on Amazon USA or England. Why is the collection using the term "Unreleased" on the cover if numerous of these recordings have been released in the past? Or are these "secret" Horowitz tapes of live performances that have lingered in a warehouse/desk for decades?

If I recall correctly the compilation was a result from people voting on DG's website. As a consequence there are "random" duplications (seems that there should have been a block on duplications regardless of how people voted).

The Beethoven cycle was first issued on Philips LPs in the late 1970s. I almost bought it, but the price was too much for my budget at that time. It was re-issued on 6 single CDs in the late 1980s or early 1990s and I have those. The performances were part of a Beethoven cycle Mengelberg conducted ...

I'd warn against relying too much on Schonberg's book. He submitted it to W.W.
