Re: Staring down the culture wars

Don't worry Belle. When the revolution comes and I seize power, the tumbrils will be going dayand night, loaded with P.C.ers and the like.... Just look at what poor Geoffrey Rush is going through at the moment, a career destroyed over little more than a joke. I for one refuse to bow to this rubbish.

If true forget about cutting his career short. Drugging and raping someone? Lock him up for life.

Started off with Toscannini conducting the NBC in Wagner excerpts. Now have the EMI Der Rosenkavalier from 1956 on the hifi.

Re: What NEW discs/music are you adding to your collection?

The Glen Gould Complete Bach Collection arrived several days ago. Received the Jascha Heifetz Complete Album Collection two weeks ago. Mightily impressed with both. The presentation of the Gould is exemplary. Also (accidently) pulled the trigger on the big Toscanini box which is on its way from Amaz...

Re: What NEW discs/music are you adding to your collection?

Found in the letterbox tonight the complete Solo Piano Works of Scriabin played by Maria Lettberg. Am listening to CD1 now. How has such wonderful music escaped me for so long?

Re: What NEW discs/music are you adding to your collection?

The "Naive" the Vivaldi Edition Operas 01 big box arrived a week ago and it's been a wonderful listen. Ordered the 70 cd Horowitz Original Jackets box from Amazon.de last night for 99EU plus shipping so will excitedly be looking forward to receiving that in a week or two, a late birthday present for...

Ralph Vaughan Williams...A Sea Symphony. A master composer and a master poet creating a master hour's listenning. Hi, alan! Welcome aboard! Post often.... Re: Arthur Rubinstein Complete Edition Odyssey

I must admit until buying the complete Rubinstein edition, I only had a handful of his recordings. But being able to explore his pianism dating back to the '20's has left me awe struck at his genius. One big fan here now.

Re: Wagner Year: The great Wagner recordings.

Rita Hunter was spectacular too. The Goodall Ring, aside from lugubrious rhinemaiden music, is excellent. It plays as a drama better than any other Ring I own. She was a grand singer, but BIG. For a production in Australia (can't remember which opera) I was told she could not mount 3 steps and... I...

Re: Introducing yourself thread!

As I'm listed as the newest member of CMG, I'd better take the time to introduce myself (by the way thank you Lance for approving my membership.) I'm a 61yo male resident of Happy Valley (a suburb of Adelaide) in S. Australia. I have a wife, 3 daughters, 2 grandsons and 2 dogs, all much loved. My lo...
