There´s nothing wrong with operatic religious music Jared. As Rossini himself said: "the good Lord will forgive me since He created me for composing opera buffa". :D And besides "operatic" vocal writing can be found in almost every religious composition from the Monteverdi Vespers to Britten´s War ...
