You are correct, JBuck, for almost 2 full decades I recited the Baltimore Catechism. One of the great mysteries of the universe, to me, is how this Church maintains its hold over the vast numbers that is does. Almost everyone I know (there are a few exceptions) that was brought up Catholic has since...

Catholic Church leads the way against AIDS

The new Pope - Mr Ratzinger - says the following: "the Catholic Church has always been at the forefront both in prevention and in treatment of this illness" and that "the traditional teaching of the church has proven to be the only fail-safe way to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS." ------------------...

I love Chopin. The first two movements of his Cello Sonata are my favorite pieces in the Chamber literature. I believe this is one of his latter works, which might belie the idea that he was losing creativity.

" I was at school and we were told that the USA now had a peanut farmer as President."

In contrast to what? A Lawyer @#%$^(*(&^$#@?????? It seems to me a peanut farmer would have a big jump on any lawyer. Too bad it didn't work out in this one case. ;o)

"why regulate medication at all?" Good idea Karl....with the internet and many other sources available, I think we are moving in that direction. Actually, I do recognize that there are public interests involved around use of medications. I hardly think this was a public interest concern. But then ag...

I couldn't agree more about the sad part. I want to see the government out of my life in terms of medical decision making of all kinds. I'm so sick of people with 'principles" and little compassion who want to set the rules for everyone else. I do not know the legal aspects of this case. but I feel ...

"It reminds me that we are now in the death throws of the LEFT."

From Jack, we get a statement of supreme ignorance. Jack- have you ever heard of cycles? Ebb and flow? Your time is waning Jack as the middle of this country finally realizes its been snookered for global - I mean Corporate - interests.

Wedding Music Suggestions

My niece will be getting married next summer and they have asked me for music suggestions. I suspect they will have a piano and cello or piano and flute. Piano and violin hasn't been ruled out, but I supect not. I am thinking more in term of songs or very short pieces, rather than whole movements fr...

Fascinating stuff...I have enjoyed reading the articles and the surveys and the posts. I used to consider myself moderately conservative, but I find myself being pushed hard out of that camp by the great alliance of fundamentalists and conservative Catholics ... who scare me at least as much as Nazi...

Ousourcing Motherhood to India

Why stop at teaching? Lets ship all American children to India to be brought up much more cheaply.
Geez, we won't need any babysitters then either.

Its a double savings!

If they can speed the process up to 60 minutes, maybe CBS can take it on as a new reality show.
