I think Hopefall would like Bruckner, Mahler, and Shostakovich. Their music is definitely not "light classical" and they do get loud.

I didn't think he was that old. He looked much younger than 73 when I saw him in 1995 playing the Brahms 2nd with the Baltimore SO. The only other time I saw him was about 20 years earlier with the BBC Orch. in Albert Hall, London--also playing the Brahms 2nd.
