Interesting, John, that you remember the date you joined CMG. I remember all sorts of other dates but would have to look up the date I joined (though I usually remember the birthdays of most of my friends here). Anyway, I'm glad you chose to mark the occasion, as you're one of the people whose parti...

Re: New Hungerford CD of a Live Beethoven Recital Released

Thank you, John and Holden. No, it doesn't include any sonatas beyond the 22 he recorded for Vanguard. And the sound has some hiss which we couldn't completely eliminate. But it's LIVE! And I really think it will be remembered as one of the best Beethoven piano sonata recitals ever recorded. The rep...

Must make time to watch the Youtube clip of Schiff. Will be interested to hear what he has to say. I greatly respect him as a Bach player; haven't heard his Beethoven. I think it's a rather stupid article, and I like the responses of John F and Tarantella. "Why not just abandon classical culture?" Mr. Oppenheimer seems to say, as it may no longer be "relevant." When will Beethoven, or Mendelssohn or the other great composers no longer be "relevant?" Not till long ...
