Hi Matt: Isn't it fascinating how Schubert takes hold of you - with themes staying in your head, with repetitions and extensions becoming the famous Schubert "heavenly lengths." One could do worse. With Schiff and Lupu you are talking about some of the finest Schubert players of their day. The "Opus...

Youve discovered a treasure among piano works. The group of Schubert sonatas, while smaller than Beethoven's, strikes me as neither equal,. more, or less valuable that Beethoven's. They are a great body of work, as important artistically as Beethoven's - in my opinion. The early sonatas, written whe...

Of course, Barry, you're entitled to your own opinion, whether you're right or not. But over time I have found the tone in the Pub, represented by your most recent post here, so unacceptable that I've decided I have better uses for my time, except for an occasional quick look. Too bad - or is it?

Good answer, too, Randall. It points to the need to approach these issues honestly and straightforwardly, without the namaecaling we see too often. It should make for mutually worthwhile discussion if not agreement, which is not likely in any case. but perhaps we may all get something out of it.

However one sees Glenn Gould, it seems he'll never lose the fascination he represents for others.
I remember reading about his link to Ms. Foss, but this story fleshes out to a much greater extent the lives and characters of three fascinating people.
If CMG is a magnet, this is one reason.

Here is one of the endless paradoxes in life - Wagner, one of the glories of Western culture - not many, Jewish or not, would deny that - and one of the base antisemites glorified by the world's worst despot.
