I thought Immortal Beloved was quite good. The score sounds fantastic on a nice home theatre system. Beethoven Lives Upstairs is a good little film. I was the music director at Tulane's summer camp and I showed all the kiddies Beethoven Lives Upstairs (I don't think Immortal Beloved would have been ...

If you want emotion, try some Rachmaninoff. I'm particularly fond of his second and third piano concertos. Also his second symphony is excellent. You can find suggestions about performers of the concertos on another thread that I remember being started on here recently. For the second symphony, Andr...

I'm pretty sure that it was Stravinsky who said it. You know what I have to say about that? I'd listen to Vivaldi over Stravinsky any day of the week. Of every composer I can think of, I'd say that, in my opinion, Stravinsky is the most overrated. Don't get me wrong, I do like some of his music, but...

I agree that it is a stereotype. I just thought that article was pretty interesting. Did you mean that Caruso was ectomorphic? Ectomorphs are generally slim. Endomorphs generally become obese. Mesomorphs become very muscular like I am, j/k. It is very hard to venture away from the somatotype that yo...

Why opera singers become obese?

From the Los Angeles Times By Diane Haithman IT'S not often that a cliché spawns a professional medical hypothesis — but such is the case with the oft-quoted, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings." In recent weeks, the name of Peter Osin, a consultant at London's Royal Marsden Hospital, has been p...

I'm listening to the 1955 Glenn Gould Goldberg Variations. I've heard sooo much about how legendary the recording is, I figured I better give it a listen.

Sounds pretty good so far. Next, I'll compare it to his 1987 go around with the Goldberg Variations.
