More on the BBC Beethoven download bash:

1. More than 65% of the downloads were taken by non-English residents.
2. Most of the downloads were taken by males under the age of 35.

Chandos has 6500 classical tracks available for downloading. Prices vary depending apparently on the length of the piece. If you'll pardon the obvious, this is a nice way to construct a cd of things you want.

It's an interesting way to construct a CD but is anyone bothered that an artist's or producer's vision of a coherent program is lost with this kind of selective downloading?

I personally don't expect it to do that well. They're missing the whole point of downloading when they charge for it... (hence, a majority of the fanbase)

Nope. They don't ask me what I want when they put the cd together. I don't care what they think when I cherry pick. I can do that now with ripping and burning.

Free downloads will go the way of shareware as the record companies catch on.

Heh, highly doubt it.

Unless they plan to kill every downloading system out there....
