Except he didn't help her career and credibility, he ruined them. And nothing he says will be believed.

He says his wife knew nothing of the deception. Wouldn't she have known that she didn't record (or attempt to record) those concertos?!

If his tale is true he became incrementally emboldened by initial success and like an addict couldn't resist greater dependency on his scheme. I do feel very sorry for Hatto - I suggested on another thread that she too might have been a victim. Given her reclusive life as her CA progressed it's very possible she never fully realized what was happening.

It's going to make a wonderful indy film, sensitively written by someone who used to work for Robert Altman, and filmed by Robert Redford's company.

She was quoted as having commented on some of the recordings. Hard to think of her as a victim unless she actually tried to play some of the works and was given substituted CDs for playback. Not a likely scenario as she would certainly recognize her own playing and know that what she heard wasn't hers. She also knew that she hadn't recorded with any orchestras.

Yes, Pizza, what you say is undoubtedly true - at least to some extent - but having read most of the story, I can't help feeling sorry for these two people - Hatto and her husband. I don't see where anyone profited by this scheme - the woman died, and the whole thing blew up as it was bound to in time. A sad story.

Incredible how quickly sympathy and victimhood are projected onto criminal forgers and frauds, alive or dead. I hope they throw the book at him and he is villified so badly no one thinks of doing such a thing for a long time. They got away with it for awhile so expanded operations, all to falsely inflate a reputation/name. My sympathies are for those ripped off - including the listening public.
