Can someone recommend me a good recording of Glazunov's Seasons and which recording(s) to avoid? Thankyou.

I am enjoying The Glazonov Series by Jose Serebrier and the Scottish National Orchestra, I would definately reccommend his recording of The Seasons, I have another by Edo De Waart and the Minnesota Orchestra which is also good, but I have not played it in a while......

Mine's a hybrid recorded from BBC radio who usually pick decent recordings.
  • Spring - Neeme Jarvi, Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Summer/Autumn/Winter - Robert Irving, Concerts Arts Symphony Orchestra
I see from AMAZON reviews that the latter is liked. It seems a bit pricey though.

I got this for the Prokofiev Opus 87 played by the Clevelanders, of course, but the Royal Phil's account of Glazunov's The Seasons has been called "a glowing performance."

Ansermet

Get Ernest Ansermet's 1960's stereo remake of his 1950's mono Decca recording. It is wonderful. Especially Winter. Plus, you have the bonus of Aram Khachaturian conducting two of his ballet suites. :D

Ditto on the Serebrier Glazanov series, especially the symphonies. With the demise of Warner classics, I hope someone will continue the series.

Naxos, please . . . ?

My favorite recording is by Robert Irving, the outstanding ballet conductor. It contains another of my favorite ballets, The Good Humored Ladies, from pieces by Scarlatti arranged by Tommasini. The latter is delightful and extreeeeeeeemely hard to find. I can't recommend that you pay $30 for it, however. I'm sure other recordings mentioned here, particularly the Ansermet, would be just as good.
