Here are some Christmas wishes for you also from Australia.
I wish you the very "bestest" for Christmas and a very
happy and healthy New Year. And many thanks for being
such a good friend.

Kind regards,
Agnes.

Congratulations Lance, recognition indeed and well deserved too. A very Happy Christmas to you and indeed all on CMG and their Families.
I intend on visiting CMG regularly over Christmas (children permitting).

But you took the time and trouble to wish her a speedy recovery, she must have been very touched by your letter...well done, Lance

Yes, I did do that, with a personal note. It's very hard to believe Dame Joan is over 80 now. I remember her so well from the early days of collecting LPs. What a glorious career she has had, and such a down-to-earth person! At least she knows her fans have not forgotten her. And you have a good memory, Sir Chalkie!

It is always a pleasure to encounter a famous and admired person who answers her own mail. Way back when I was in college in the 70s my roommate, a classic opera buff, contrived a class assignment so that he would have to contact a number of "women in music." He too got a (handwritten) letter back from Ms. Sutherland, not then Dame Joan.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Lance, do you mean that she sent you a card "just" because you dropped her a note wishing her a speedy recovery? :o Or were you acquaintances a long time ago and then lost touch & the get-well letter nudged her memory?

My, she was nice to do that. Many wouldn't, I don't think!

I saw her in recital twice, in the 70s. A helluva voice.

Topo, I love that antique card from cardcow.com. Here is another neat one I found there.

I guess this is what passed for porn 100 years ago. Thankfully, I never saw my parents behaving that way in the 1950s (I'm from a farm).

Big deal. I got a Christmas card in today's mail from Pavarotti.

When Martha Stewart was in Prison she sent me a Christmas Card of her front door with this huge Black Wreath on it...she always did have a good sense of humor actually, when John Waters made Serial Mom, a film where a Martha Stewart type woman goes on a killing spree, she coached Kathleen Turner in how act like Martha...we were in Ohio once at a Peony Farm that sold Peony Plants, they had about 120 varieties and Martha was crying, I asked why and she said it was because she could not afford to buy ALL of them...

I didn't get a Christmas card from Dame Sutherland, but I did get Christmas fudge from Teddie Kennedy and his wife, Miss Vickie, for some constituent work I did for them last year in my job as Ombudsman for a government agency.
