Nice haul Darren....the two Biondi discs are very enjoyable.

Abbado....Bach....Brandenburg Concertos....I will be interested to read your take on that :D

That's a lovely collection Darren, well done. I have to say that I really do like Fabio "Fabulous" Biondi and the Europa Galante, the Abbado looks very interesting too.

^^ thanks Fergus and Sean for some kind words there.

I have to be honest and say I also bought this (but couldn't find a suitable pic to post):-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004 ... A998WPG5QX

I have one Biondi Vivaldi disc and fancied expanding that portion of my collection.

The Abbado Brandenburgs just popped up as a recommendation on Amazon; the price was right and I had heard good things so will look forward to those too :)

I have the other CD in this set already Fergus, and I loved it. I have no idea why I didn't complete the set sooner though

That disc is one of the dozen or so 'jewels' in my chamber music collection. I am glad you have it now too Fergus :D

I have about half of those recordings on LP. They were gripping when they first appeared, much like Biondi's Vivaldi. They probably remain so today. Vibrantly recorded too. I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks for that John. It's quite a substantial purchase, so I do hope it's worth it. I have such a lot of Hogwood's Mozart - except the symphonies (and piano concertos for that matter!) - that I couldn't resist this any longer :!:

I had a lot of those on cassette tape way back when Darren and I loved them so much that I got that box set when it came out first on CD....suffice to say that I still indulge myself from time to time :D

Just sold a few DVDs on ebay, and blown most of the profit raised, in one fell swoop:

Has anyone heard Ormandy's Tod und Verklarung from the late 40s. It's a jaw dropper. It sounds nothing like Strauss. Hard to believe there wasn't a mix up at the copiest and they got the wrong music. I like a lot of Ormandy, but this one is a real gnocchi!

Well done, it's high on my list wish, it would make a welcome addition to my collection, in January 2012 perhaps.

Chabrier - 10 Pièces pittoresques - Ginette Doyen

A vinyl to FLAC conversion made available here: http://quartier-des-archives.blogspot.com/

Open using Google Chrome and the translate button works pretty well, indicating this was recorded in Vienna in 1953.

Interesting comparing to Angela Hewitt 50 years later, setting recording quality aside a worthy take imo.

I have been on the lookout for this CD of Kubelik conducting the Eroica with the BPO - happy to have picked it up for around $2 :)
