Boulez/Chicago/Stravinsky - Sensational New Live Recording

Post by Scott Morrison » Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:47 am

A really special hybrid SACDfrom Pierre Boulez and the Chicago Symphony. Live performances of Stravinsky's Pulcinella, Four Études, and Symphony in Three Movements. I am more and more impressed with Boulez as a conductor. And, my god, he's now 85!! I remember when he was the hot new thing back in the 1950s.

What did you think of the Pulcinella, Scott? Fellow elsewhere was unenthused by this reading.

I have only played it once but I enjoyed it, I don't have any other recordings of the full Ballet so this fills that gap...

A Boulez Symphony in Three Movements ought to be a thrill.
Black lives matter.

My copy just arrived today from the CSO. :D

the "Pulcinella" [complete] is superb - only listened to it once, but the polish and facility are amazing - I don't know how you make this music sound easy, but they do it. as expected oboe and bassoon playing [Izotov, McGill] are magnificent. Terrific sound - great clarity, like you are in the hall..
