Here's a fun little game. You need only a minimum of knowledge of recordings to play it. You can entlist the aid of the Arkivmusic site to assist you.

Be careful, though, as many of the ensembles listed therein are CHORAL GROUPS featured on the same recordings with orchestra (Beethoven's Ninth, for instance)....remember, it must in the parameters of this thread's title. And try to draw upon your knowledge of live recordings--private, bootleg, airchecks, etc.

The Stadium Symphony Orchestra was essentially the New York Philharmonic, which used to play summer concerts in Lewisohn Stadium. And the Hollywood Bowl is the summer venue of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Stokowski is probably the statistical winner, given his extremely long career, love of travel, and generally restless life. And he conducted orchestras he never recorded with, probably a great many of them.

Either he or the aforementioned Dorati would've been my educated guess; the former a seeming phenomenon of the CD age, the latter of the audiophile stereo LP. It's interesting that both spent time in Detroit...not that there's anything wrong with that.

If this was about most recorded (and most outré) repertoire, Järvi would win my vote hands down.

And, speaking of errors, did any one else note the Hyperion ad in the BBC Music Magazine claiming this to be the 300th anniversary of Chopin's birth. Are there no proof readers anymore?

He recorded Salome with Eva Marton for SONY with the Berlin Philharmonic. And add the Bayerischen Staatsorchester, he recorded with them a Die Walkúre live and a specially good Mahler III also live in Vienna (Farao Classics).

Though, in theory, Neeme DID guest-conduct in Cincinnati (family affair, of course--went both ways), and therefore, HAD to have some live recordings archived.

WELL, at the time of recording (late 50s/early 60s) it WAS a force in the New York concert and American recording scenes, under the direction of its founder, Thomas Scherman. They did LPs for Columbia & RCA.

Whilst many do lease that Database, which has up to 60 million Tracks, Arkiv does not...their Database is made up from the Recordings that they have for sale, as others have pointed out, Conductors often worked live with Orchestras, but, may not have recorded with them...

They did some Strauss waltzes for London (Phase 4?), and which aren't presently available according to Arkiv.
