Need best wishes from CMG friends

Post by Heck148 » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:39 pm

We found out last week that my dear beloved wife of 32 years, has been diagnosed with lung cancer - a spot on the lung, with metastatic lesions in her brain...
it's the brain lesions that produced the symptoms that took her to the doctor - impaired vision, loss of memory, disorientation...

She has already started radiation treatments as outpatient visits. they've done a biopsy, but we don't have the results back yet - so specific diagnosis, exact type of CA, prescribed treatment and prognosis are as of yet unknown to us...
but one thing sure - it is bad, it really sucks...

please send us your best wishes and vibes...
Thanks.

That is very distressing news and you have all my sympathy as you and your wife face such a serious situation. Please keep us informed, and accept my wishes for her restoration to good health.

Dave: I have been thinking of you recently in two connections - I attended the annual performance up in the Adirondacks of the Syracuse Symphony, about which we've corresponded in the past, and, just yesterday, I was listening to the Franz Danzi Bassoon Quintets which conjured up your specialty.

Now there's a third, and much more personal reason to have you in our thoughts. All the best of good fortune to your wife and you as you both get on with fighting this awful disease. May she respond, recover and remain!

Thanks to all for your kind wishes and good thoughts. it really does give me a boost.
I feel like we are entering a long dark tunnel - the end of which is unknown and unseen at this point, but we are committed to the journey and there can be no turning back...

I know I have to look after myself at this time, it won't do to run myself into the ground...my wife is so dependent on me for so much...one can only do everything, worry about everything for so long - a bit like climbing in ultra-high altitudes - you can't do it indefinitely. one can only function so long without relief - you can be doing alright, but your strength is diminishing, your energy decreasing. fortunately, family and friends are rallying to the cause, which helps a great deal.

it is tough for her, because she has always been a very organized, self-sufficient super-mom who willingly puts her own interests on the back burner in order to help other family members...it is tough for her to accept that her role has changed here - she is now the receiver, others are the givers...

but we'll go one day at a time. when we see how she responds to the treatments we'll all have a better idea of the prognosis and long-range view...

again, thanks everyone for all of your kind wishes...CMG helps me, it gives me an outlet...I don't always have to be staring the "situation" in the face...

I've been at both ends of this. For more than a year I was embarrassingly dependent on the help of my family to get me through an illness. For a while my posting was sporadic because I couldn't maintain concentration or even, sometimes, sit up long enough to have a session with the board. I seem to recall that my posting on the presidential election was all over the place both in terms of inappropriate placement and the focus of my thoughts. However, the board was a source of hope and strength, and I knew that there was more than lip service behind their expressions of concern.

Now the situation is reversed and I am more and more responsible for the care of my mother, who is currently doing a stint in rehab at a nursing home after falling and breaking several vertebrae (she turns 90 on Thursday). Before everybody rushes in, she is making great progress and is scheduled to come home next Tuesday; the situation is well in hand. That is not quite as stressful as what you and your wife are going through, but it is my way of saying that I can have genuine sympathy for your situation, in more ways than one.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

just an update - my wife finishes radiation therapy today....she had an MRI yesterday - which shows a "work still in progress" sort of view, but the overall results were good;
no new lesions, shrinking of existing ones, no signs of bleeding or excessive swelling. this is good. the lesions are still present, but things are heading in the right direction...

a long fight remains, but she is not having any life-threatening symptoms at present - no cardiac issues, no pulmonary symptoms, no cranial bleeding/stroke indications....so we're determined to fight it thru to victory.
