"Treasures of New York,"
Catching up on DVRed shows we finally got to see and enjoyed:
"Tony Award-winning actress Patti LuPone takes New York-area residents on a tour of Lincoln Center in "Treasures of New York," which airs July 14 on PBS.
"Treasures of New York: Lincoln Center with Patti LuPone" brings the Broadway veteran back to her academic and performing roots. LuPone is among the first graduates of the drama division of the Juilliard School (located on the Lincoln Center Campus) and also starred in the revival of Anything Goes and her solo evening Matters of the Heart at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. The actress was also married on the Beaumont stage.
The 8 PM special promises not only history of Lincoln Center, but also stories of LuPone's achievements at the renowned facility. The presentation highlights the history and recent renovation of the Lincoln Center campus, including vintage footage of Leonard Bernstein and opera star Risë Stevens."
The footage of Bernstein showed him discussing the benefits of building Lincoln Center as he lit up a cigarette--boy have times changed from those days! Regards, Len

Durn, I read the subject and was about to go out an buy a metal detector.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Plenty of treasures in NYC--don't bring metal or metal detectors--just bring plastic! Regards, Len

I saw that program and it was indeed fascinating: remember, West Side Story was filmed in the neighborhood that Lincoln Center replaced, IIRC!
Re: "Treasures of New York,"
I'm told that in one of the location shots for West Side Story, if you look over the rooftops you can see one of the cranes at the Lincoln Center construction site.

This is allowable only if you are wearing big ol' shorts...either oversize plaid Bermudas or safari-style with the giant sewn-on exterior pockets. The dorkier, the better.jbuck919 wrote:Durn, I read the subject and was about to go out an buy a metal detector.
Just sayin'...

When my wife and I first became Met subscribers that neighborhood was raw around the edges--we actually felt kind of unsafe--it was 1976. And there were few places to eat--now what gentrification and it's getting better and better --also more and more pricey! We haven't seen that green area yet but next time we're in we gotta check it out. Regards, Len
