A sad note....

Post by Heck148 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:08 pm

Early on Tues 8/16, my beloved wife of 33 years, Peggy, passed from this world, after a long, difficult and heart-breaking struggle with cancer. She battled this dreaded affliction for over a year, with great courage, dignity and tenacity. We will all miss her so.......

Heck, it is evident from the heartbreaking gentleness and somber tone of your post that you were deeply in love with your wife right to the end. You have my deepest sympathy and condolences. I hope you will find some solace from the concern of all your friends here.

Thanx to all for your kind thoughts - we are busily putting together the memorial service to be held Saturday...

I do find music to be of some solace at this time - there are certain works which I won't go near -
Verdi Requiem, Tristan Prelude/lLve-Death, Death & Transfiguration...some Mahler...

but others are quite comforting - Bach, late Mozart symphonie seem to fit the bill....She of course had lots of favorite songs, favorite pieces, some of which we will include in the ceremony.

the grieving process, I've learned by experience, must be allowed to progress as it will. our minds and bodies "know" how to defend us, how to protect us....often, it's best if we "don't get in our own way"....at one time, we'll be overwhelmed with sadness and grief, then we'll be OK, able to function quite normally, take care of business...we just have to let it flow as it will..

Thanks so much for posting that. Just a few paragraphs, but there's much there between the lines. You had a wonderful life together, and a remarkable legacy to leave for your 10 grandchildren. I often think of George Eliot's words that "the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts" when I read of someone like your wife. (One could argue it should be "mainly" instead of "partly".) Thanks also for your contributions on CMG, which always stimulate my thinking and are enjoyable to read.
