Well, I missed the 5 AM start today for the BPO concert featuring a brief extract from Pfitzner's Palestrina.

Henry, 'Palestrina' is a gorgeous opera and the interludes are very beautiful. Thanks for the tip, my friend. 8)

It's very beautiful, but also very stern. Like Parsifal without the laughs.

Palestrina is a magnificent work, full of interesting harmonies and compelling music. The Act I Prelude is probably the most accessible and beautiful music Pfitzner wrote. Here's my favorite recording of the piece, on what is one of Thielemann's finest discs:
