I do wish everybody a happy holiday. And I will have one too, in spite of the revolting development that the church I've worked for since May insists on a "Midnight Mass" (Anglo-Catholic, don't you know). It actually starts at 11:30, but that's an hour past my bedtime! I've done these before, of course, but not for years, and I'm getting too old for it. I've never even understood how musicians bear having to start playing at the normal concert start time of 8:00. The opposite side of that is that I am a strong morning person, but probably not tomorrow morning. (Oddly enough, even though it's Sunday, I have the day off as there will only be the tiniest congregation at a single spoken services; ditto New Year's, so I guess I can't complain, at least this year.)

In case anyone is wondering, the voluntaries are two noels by D'Aquin. I mean on a one-manual organ with barely usable pedals, what else?

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

From sunny North Dakota (contrary to the state's popular image, there hardly any snow on the ground), a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah. Right now, Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols is sounding through the house, while I am working on tomorrow's dinner with a short break to post this message. I wish you were all here for the roast leg of lamb and pinot noir.

Best wishes

Ted

And from Mexico City: Feliz Navidad a todos, or Janucá (as my Jewish friends spell it in Spanish).
Thank you for another year of friendship and wonderful exchange of ideas.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone from Norway! Actually we celebrate christmas eve here so today is a very quiet day except for some depressing stormy weather. Even in northern Europe we can't rely on a white christmas!

I look forward to a new year with discussions and exchange of ideas.
