Werner shares his birth date with soprano and film star Kathryn Grayson. Happy birthday, Werner.

Just back from out-of-town for a few days, I, too, convey my heartiest best wishes to Werner Isler on achieving a wonderful milestone ... 90 wonderful, musically-filled years. You have been very special to me --along with Charlotte and Donald-- and to all CMGers. Many happy returns of your special day!

Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
I'm overwhelmed by all the friends heard from on this occasion - it almost looks like I'm getting older and slower in my response (a useful excuse, perhaps?)

Friends from across the United States, from Ireland and Australia, phone calls from Brazil, London etcetera - new friends and old friends going back the length of my CMG membership, who have enriched my horizons. A special appreciation due Lance, who is the spirit of CMG, which helps us all appreciate music and manage a civilized forum on so many subjects.

To all of you, thanks for being there. Let's look forward to enjoying each other in the years to come!

Thank you all! I didn't know that Chalkie and John were historians - now all you need is to bring it a bit up to date!

Anyway, I'm flatered!

Many happy returns for this great milestone Werner. I'll play the CD you made in 1966 in honour of this occasion.

Thank you, Holden - I feel honored that you'll listen to the best I could do before I quit playing. Not that I ever entertained hopes of music professionally, but years of friendship with professionals gave me some standards to try for.

Of course you realize that in 1966 CDs were far into the future, as was any knowledge of recording techniques on my part. It was some years after that time that we were privileged to attend many Hungerford recording sessions at Vanguard. But at least some of my teachers and friends such as Adrian Aeschbacher and Bruce Hungerford could see what I was trying to accomplish.

And then along comes a ninetieth birthday, which serves as an excuse for almost anything, and friends say nice things. Many thanks to all!

As usual, Dad is too modest. Hungerford and Aeschbacher were both quite impressed with his recording.

I agree and thanks to introducing me to the playing of my compatriot Bruce Hungerford whose LvB PS cycle, if completed, would have been up there with the absolute best (if not the best) of all time.
