Well, this caught my eye immediately. I'm wondering if this contains ANYTHING that did NOT appear in the 41-mega box issued domestically on Sony Classical [48417, 41 CDs] though German Amazon note says ALL of Horowitz's RCA and Columbia recordings. Near as I can figure, this is just repackaged material blending both labels now with only live performances. Would appreciate any details you discover as time goes on! Many thanks.

I already have the complete Carnegie Hall recital box, as well as the megabox of his RCA & Columbia commercial studio recordings. This looks like a duplication to me, but I'm glad to see that there's anticipated interest in this great pianist. Could this be from venues other than Carnegie Hall? If so, I would be interested.

The demise of the CD seems far away to me, if sets like this continue to appear!

Horowitz played at least one recital in the Metropolitan Opera House.

from hmv.jp. Machine translated."Songs" is iPodspeak. For "list" or "List", read Liszt.

recording system: stereo (Live) * is an already released sound source.

Physical condition of Horowitz in 1983 is rapidly worsening, it is now
also reflected in the performance. Therefore, although the recital in
Tokyo on June 11th and the 16th, 1983, was recorded by RCA, and it is
not included in this box set.

How many times do I want the same Scarlatti sonata(s) by the same pianist?

Why is the collection using the term "Unreleased" on the cover if numerous of these recordings have been released in the past? Or are these "secret" Horowitz tapes of live performances that have lingered in a warehouse/desk for decades?

It appears from the discog posted above that most of the material in this new box is unreleased and does not duplicate the previous two from SONY. Also I see no problem releasing the live performances of such an important artist despite all the duplication of repertoire from recital to recital, esp at the reasonable prices these sets often fetch. Rock stars do it, charging premium prices for their souvenir boxes.

Of course, that doesn't mean we have to buy them. I have passed on all these artist megaboxes except the wonderful Murray Perahia set listed at an unbeatable price. I have more than enough Horowitz on LP and CD to satisfy me. I don't need all his outtakes any more than I need all of Dylan's bootlegs.

Amazon.com has the Sony 70 CD original jacket collection at $86.24 today. I've never seen it at that low a price.

Well, it looks like there is a lot of duplication in repertoire even from different venues. Many people may choose not to acquire this set due to the duplication factor. On the other hand, same for Callas collectors (they want everything/anything despite sound quality), if you are truly in to the artist, you surely will want to have this set. If you're 99 years old (I'm not!), then you might want to get this because of your devotion to and love of the artist. I wonder if the price will come down as time goes on and it doesn't sell well. Right now, it appears it's about $3.50 per disc with the Euro being what it is (plus shipping). There will always be some collectors that will get it - no matter. I'm waivering but it might be a nice Christmas or birthday present from somebody!

Note: It appears only Amazon/Germany is making the announcement on this set. Anybody find it anywhere else?

Horowitz was a pianist who had a considerable amount of spontaneity. Live performances, even of the same work, would still be interesting to me.

That's a steal!

Even with duplication, I'm interested in this. Horowitz's touch and interpretations are magical to my ears. I'll wait until it's offered in this country and actually in print in international quantity before I plunk down the $$$$.

It is currently available from Amazon.jp for about $114 (including shipping to the US)! :D (after tax deduction etc etc etc)

It was also on amazon.es late last week for 33 euros, till they finally realized the pricing error and withdrew the offering. But it was announced there. I hear at the time of withdrawal it was #1 in classical sales on amzn espana.

Now, I would have bought it at 33 Euros.
