The great Czech pianist Ivan Moravec died yesterday, Monday, July 27, 2015 in Prague. In all the obits I read, I found no reference to my favorite Moravec recording: a performance of the Prokofiev First Piano Concerto (the best one ever, IMNSHO) with Karel Ancerl and the Czech Philharmonic on a long deleted Praga CD (# PR 254 004).

Moravec issued two superb CDs for Vox: Chopin and Debussy, which I play often, along with the Chopin Nocturnes. An outstanding artist. R.I.P. Another of the greats gone.....

Just got back from my trip to the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont and learned of Moravec's passing. Certainly, he was one of the greats. I have enjoyed my 30 recordings of his work over the years. His Chopin Nocturnes set remains one of his greatest accomplishments. The Prokoviev PC #1 alluded to on this thread was also issued on CD by Haydn House. Somehow, I missed the original Praga issue.
