Post by stenka razin » Mon Jan 11, 2016 8:57 am

In 1986, Glass wrote his 1st Symphony 'Low" based on Bowie's album 'Low', In honor of Bowie's sad passing from cancer, here is the 1st movement of Glass' Symphony.

This is terrible, but I had no idea that David Bowie died, let alone that long ago. Normally I would not know any more about him than about any pop musician, but he starred in the excellent movie The Man Who Fell to Earth (which is better in the cut version I saw in my twenties than the uncut one I saw on VHS years later.)

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I'm confused-you say long ago but it was just yesterday or am I confused. Regards, Len

The way Mel worded it, with a comma instead of a period, it sounded as though Glass wrote his piece in honor of Bowie's passing in 1986. I know my mistake.

No, you're not confused: David Bowie just passed yesterday. The symphony was written in 1986 and had nothing to do with Bowie's death.

I doubly apologize for being so dense.
