Wagner Ring Exhibit at the Morgan NYC
Came across this for anyone interested. Regards, Len
Wagner’s Ring: Forging an Epic
January 29 through April 17, 2016
In 1848 Richard Wagner (1813–1883) began work on what eventually would become his monumental cycle of four music dramas, Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung). It would be twenty-six years before his masterpiece was fully completed in November 1874.
Wagner's Ring: Forging an Epic explores the challenging creation of Wagner’s epic, and the staging of its 1876 premiere in Bayreuth and its 1889 American debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. The exhibition includes rare music manuscripts, personal letters, books, costumes and stage designs, photographs, and historical artifacts. A number of the items are on loan from the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth and have never before been on public display. Additional material comes from the Morgan’s music holdings, the Metropolitan Opera Archives, Columbia University, and from several private collections.

Maybe this is what I should see on Tuesday morning when I'm in New York in April. I'll only have time for one museum visit, and I've never been to the Pierpont Morgan.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

It's quite stunning-a new section modern and impressive-then there are his original rooms-definitely worth seeing those. Len, your Wagner note, made me want to come back to NYC. Thanks for the heads up, my friend.

I don't think I've ever known where Mel lives. (The steppes of Central Asia were the home of the real Cossack personage Stenka Razin, a name that Mel did not make up.)

Len, Florida, where so many of us go in later years. But, NY is always in my mind and my heart, my friend.lennygoran wrote:Mel I forgot or just never knew- where are you now-I thought you might still be in NY? Mel thanks-we've been to Florida many times over the years-in the winter it's great! Are you close enough to the Sarasota Opera-they're doing an opera I've never seen but I love the music!stenka razin wrote:

The Battle of Legnano
Giuseppe Verdi
Love for the same woman will test the friendship of two warriors as honor calls them into battle in the last installment of the Verdi Cycle.

Len, Sarasota is too far for me and my wife to travel, too. But La Battaglia di Legnano sounds like it will be a wonderful experience for those fortunate enough to attend. Thank you, my friend.lennygoran wrote:Mel thanks-we've been to Florida many times over the years-in the winter it's great! Re: Wagner Ring Exhibit at the Morgan NYC
Oddly enough, I may be the one for whom this is most convenient, because my father lives maybe 1.5 hours away from Sarasota. However, I have visited him recently and am too tied up to manage another visit just now. Still, now that I know that there is a Sarasota Opera, I'll take it into account when I plan my next visit. (My father, alas, is unable to appreciate music anymore because of deafness, a horrible fate to befall a musician.)
