Yuja Wang, Live Broadcast From Carnegie Hall Tonight!

Post by Donald Isler » Sat May 14, 2016 2:44 pm

Am planning to watch pianist Yuja Wang's Carnegie Hall recital, which will be broadcast live at 8 PM tonight on medici TV (http://www.medici.tv). Program: Brahms: Two Ballades, Schumann: Kreisleriana, Beethoven: Hammerklavier Sonata! She's a staggering brilliant player, but I'm also looking forward to see if she has the imagination for a terrific Schumann performance, and real depth in Beethoven's most difficult sonata.

Yuja Wang gave a stunning performance of Brahms, Schumann and Beethoven this evening.

When one looks at this very attractive young woman, it's easy to be distracted from this simple fact...she's a masterful artist. who plays with the technique of a Horowitz and the musical depth of great interpreters like Serkin, Schnabel, Perahia and Schiff.

The Kreisleriana was beautifully rendered and the Hammerklavier was played with great power and sensitivity when the music called fir this passion.

A real treat, indeed, to hear this terrific pianist tonight.

Hard to beat Medici for classical music on your computer.

Donald

Thanks for the heads up.

I only caught the second half of the recital.

Yuja was stunning! Her encores were wonderful too. Virtuosic, yet stylish. Never vulgar.

Frankly, I prefer her to Lang Lang.

(dodging the bullets ....)

The only reason that I didn't tune in for this broadcast was that I was at a concert on Saturday night featuring none other than Lang Lang! He was the soloist in Rachmaninoff's rarely played Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Philadelphia Orchestra. I may not post a full review, so I'll just say here that LL was an ideal performer for this concerto.

That being said, I remain (pardon me) a huge Yuja fan in everything she plays.
