John Adams's Scheherazade.2

Post by Modernistfan » Sat Aug 13, 2016 1:15 pm

I seem to be reporting a lot of new recordings of significant contemporary repertoire lately. Here we go again--John Adams's "Scheherazade.2" is coming out on Nonesuch at the end of September with the St. Louis Symphony, conducted by David Robertson, with Leila Josefowicz the soloist (the work was written for her). Robertson and the St. Louis Symphony are, of course, known quantities in this music, and came to the rescue when the bozos at Deutsche Grammophon refused to release Dudamel's recording of Adams's "City Noir" either as a CD or as a download available in the United States.

Now, we need Esa-Pekka Salonen's "Karawane." Come on, DG, step up and do your job!

That will certainly be in my shopping cart as soon as it comes out. I do so much of my new music listening via Youtube, but I find it important to hand the recording companies some $$ for making it available in a more tangible form.

Meanwhile, a song of Salonen will be welcome:
Black lives matter.
