Bartok Piano Quartet in C Minor

Post by Belle » Sat Mar 04, 2017 4:37 am

I've just heard this work, composed by Bartok at age 17, and for the life of me I thought it was by Brahms. It was just played on BBC Radio 3 and I was shocked to hear it and to learn it is so rarely recorded. There's only this brief excerpt on U-Tube - perhaps it's available on Spotify:

From what I remember of my studies, Bartok's three big influences were R. Strauss, Debussy, and Brahms.
Good music is that which falls upon the ear with ease, and quits the memory with difficulty.
