Decca Eloquence 482 5892, 4 CDs

Australian Singers on Record

Now, HERE'S a set that will appeal to vocal collectors. I hope you can read the second image describing what is on each CD, each filled with close to 80 minutes each, and via third party sellers, very affordable. (Amazon is high.) This is a very unique set from Decca in that the recordings go from the earliest 1900s to the stereo era. Many of the earliest names will not be known to you, but are illustrative of vocal styles from those years. Some singers get more than one track. Interestingly, Decca has some unpublished items therein, and also includes recordings from other labels such as HMV, RCA, EMI and others. All documentation has been preserved in the excellent booklet included with this set, including mini-biographies. I was really excited about getting this one! Go for it, especially because it involves Australian singers in one boxed set. A very nice package.

When she started to play, Mr. Steinway came down and personally
rubbed his name off the piano. [Speaking about pianist &*$#@+#]
