Oleg Marshev, pianist

Post by Lance » Sat Apr 01, 2017 4:00 pm

I've long had a fascination with Russian pianist OLEG MARSHEV who has recorded extensively for Denmark's Danacord label. What an incredible pianist. Just today, I was listening to his Liszt disc of music with orchestra, the two concertos, Totentanz and the Hungarian Fantasy. Rarely have I heard such amazing fingerwork in the Hungarian Fantasy that I hear in this disc. I have well over 20 of Marshev's Danacord discs - and they are all gems. Among them is Anton Rubinstein's Piano Concertos 3 and 4, the latter a real jewel of a piece rarely heard today - as are any of Anton's piano concertos. There are six discs of Emil von Sauer's music as well. He apparently resides in Italy now and travels back to Scandinavia to make his recordings. Anybody else familiar with this pianist?
