Years and years ago, someone posted a very brief excerpt of Messiaen improvising. It was dull, it was short, it was meandering, and I dismissed it as something I could accomplished myself if my only goal was to make an atmospheric noise from an organ console. I stand by that assessment of that post, though I imagine that no one here remembers it. I have made it clear that he is not my favorite French composer for the instrument, but here is something more substantial that some of you may find interesting. (The Gregorian Puer Natus, the introit for one of the three Christmas masses, is vaguely quoted in the pedal some seconds in.)

Messiaen improvises
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
