Corsaro did some outstanding productions for New York City Opera and the Juilliard School, where he was on the faculty. Several of these were with sets and costumes by Maurice Sendak, the children's book author; "The Love for Three Oranges," originally at City Opera and the Glyndebourne Festival and revived at Juilliard, is one of the best opera productions I've seen, and I've seen a lot.

But his masterpiece, also with Sendak, was undoubtedly "The Cunning Little Vixen" for City Opera. The sets and costumes were destroyed in a warehouse fire so no revival is possible, more's the pity.

I hadn't heard anything about him for a long time, though he remained active at least until 2007 when he directed Berg's "Lulu" at Fort Worth Opera. It was a long life and a valuable one.
