Charles Dutoit Replaced at New York Philharmonic Concerts After Assault Allegations

By ANDREW R. CHOW DEC. 31, 2017

Joshua Weilerstein will conduct a series of New York Philharmonic concerts in January, after Charles Dutoit stepped down from the podium following sexual assault allegations.

The Associated Press reported on Dec. 21 that four women claimed that Mr. Dutoit sexually assaulted them in incidents between 1985 and 2010. He denied the accusations, but nevertheless severed ties with many orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, where he was artistic director and principal conductor.

Mr. Dutoit, 81, had also been tapped to conduct the New York Philharmonic’s Ravel-centered program, Jan. 17-20, which will include performances of “Le tombeau de Couperin,” “Valses nobles et sentimentales,” and the Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, with Jean-Yves Thibaudet as soloist. Now Mr. Weilerstein, who is Mr. Dutoit’s junior by about half a century, will take over, with the program unchanged.

Mr. Weilerstein was appointed assistant conductor at the New York Philharmonic in 2011. He is the artistic director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne in Switzerland.

As for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Pinchas Zukerman will conduct the East Coast portion of its U.S. tour that begins next month. Thierry Fischer will take over for several of the West Coast dates.

What is hard to believe, except it appears to be true, about all these abusers is how bold they are. They do not just solicit the attention of women who do not welcome it. (On that basis, both my mother and my sister qualify as victims.) They grab, they grope, for God's sake they force their tongues down women's throats. Sorry if I posted similarly before. I tend to confuse what I post here with what I post on Facebook, and I am a little out of it because after a week or more of below zero temperatures it is still minus 22 in Stony Creek. (Forget what you read in the official report.) I've seen minus 30 years ago but it only lasted a day or so. No relief is expected here until next week. Welcome to Ultima Thule.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Yes, and also hard to believe that their defenders so often sound off about why victims waited so long to come forward, the average time for children and adolescents being 23 years after the abuse has occurred.

A sunny, balmy 7° here, the Browns finished 0-16 and coach Hue Jackson vows to keep his promise to jump into Lake Erie if that happened. Spring training begins in less than 2 months. (hater of heat and humidity)

Is that a recent picture of Dutoit? Obviously something fishy there...

Now that you mention it, there is an uncanny resemblance. Monsieur Charles; il est un véritable grand requin blanc.
