Carlos Kleiber contested by rowdy La Scala audience

Post by Belle » Tue Jan 09, 2018 3:42 pm

Somebody has put together these two instances of disruption during the performance of "Othello" in La Scala with Kleiber on the podium in 1976. From what I've been able to briefly ascertain the persons doing the shouting objected to Kleiber's reading of Verdi's intentions. If anybody speaks Italian perhaps they can tell us what is being shouted in this link; and what style the maestro is able to exhibit during it all!! I've wondered if Italian audiences are often like this or whether these interruptions are few and far between.
