These beautiful and elegant works are so seldom discussed or heard these days, but I have had them playing whilst working on the computer today. And this is a wonderful performance:

Very nice, and I did not know these. I was all prepared to show off when I read the Wikipedia article, which reveals all.

I knew that Rosenkranz means rosary, and Guildenstern is apparently a nickname for a baby boy. These commentaries on the characters in Hamlet are lost on modern audiences, as they probably were in Shakespeare's own time.

Many do not realize that Salzburg was the precedential see north of Italy. The prince-archbishop, and I don't know why he was never made a cardinal, was entitled to the highest place at table above even the archbishop of Vienna. The Nonnberg Abbey, made famous by the story of the Trapp family, is the oldest continuously existing community for women religious in Europe. It was not suppressed even by the Nazis.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Thank you Belle & jbuck, that was lovely! I have a 2-CD set of Biber's Violin Sonatas, and he's an excellent composer and very original.
