Händel "Dixit Dominus" John Eliot Gardiner

I've just found and listened to this comparatively recent performance of "Dixit Dominus" from English Baroque Soloists/Monteverdi Choir/John Eliot Gardiner:

I'm not particularly fussed about the performance as I feel the choir/orchestral balance is out of whack; you can hardly hear the orchestra. What do you all think?

Thanks for posting that.

I thought the female soloists were a bit lame, not quite up to the task. The chorus and orchestra were quite wonderful, as was the quick bass solo. I understand what you're saying about how the choir swamped the orchestra in certain passages, but that's what you get when the sound is compressed in order to fit into youtube's requirements. Certainly not CD quality, unfortunately. An energetic and vibrant performance nonetheless.
