Great! Marin Alsop has always been positive about relations with the community, and this takes it to a whole new level.

Marin Alsop is doing great things everywhere she goes. She has established herself very well in the world of conducting.

Yes, the pictures are great, but the news about this program is even better.

Baltimore having been "my" city for a number of years, ditto to the previous replies. (Sorry, Len, but they closed down their opera house during the time I lived near there.)

Now for my diatribe. As with many US cities, the high school dropout rate for black Baltimore kids in the public schools is nearly 100%. (Forget the reported statistics, which may show a mere 50%. these kids do not perform to anything like a reasonable standard and are, as un-PC as it is to say so, disproportionately contributory to the low ranking the US holds among countries in overall educational achievement.) The reason? Well, there is this:

So Marin Alsop + philanthropy are taking another stab at what seems to be an intractable problem. It is necessary to keep trying, and may her effort bear fruit.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
