Volume 1 shown above
Capriccio series CDs, 10 in all

The amount of music coming from the Doppler brothers (Franz, 1821-1883; Carl, 1826-1900) is enormous and significant. CLAUDI ARIMANY (b. 1955) is the heir apparent to Jean-Pierre Rampal, his mentor and teacher. Seven of the ten volumes have appeared thus far comprising music by these composers who were also virtuoso flute performers. They must have certainly been outstanding given the music they have left ... enough to fill ten CDs with brilliant music for the flute. These ten CDs will comprise the complete flute music by the Doppler brothers.

Arimany is a first-class virtuoso very much in the tradition of Rampal. The recordings all seem to be made in Catalonia between, so far, 2007 and 2016 or later. Combinations of instruments seems limitless: solo flute/piano, two flutes/piano, flutes and horn quartets, much with piano but also with orchestra and other combinations.

Very fine compositions from the high point of the Romantic period in music history, and each CD thus far has proven to be very entertaining and amazing in its virtuosity. Recording quality is exceptional (the flute is a difficult instrument to record without distortion given its high range and power).

Each disc thus far: highly recommended!
